During stay at home orders I’ve had a lot more time to do art. I turned part of the garage and even started an Etsy page to try and sell some of my pieces.
For these pieces I use paint markers called Posca Pens. They have really bright and beautiful colors, they work really well on the wood pieces that I found. I’ve also been creating custom sneakers, I’ve done 3 pairs of custom Air Force 1s, a pair of Converse and a pair of Vans slides!
I’m having a really fun time creating new things and people have been buying them which is even better!
Girl split between space and sky. Has small detail and beautiful colors not to mention pretty butterflies!

There is my father, like dark chocolate. Like the midnight that comes after the daylight has gone to rest. His hair when grown out is a winding road in the midnight without any street lights lighting the way. Hair as dark as a silhouette in front of a sunset. Eyes as dark as the midnight sky, and when light is caught in them it acts as twinkling stars, ready to explode into something even more amazing. Smile as bright and wide as an explosion on a movie theater screen, making the audience gasp.
Then there is my mother, like white chocolate. She is the daylight that comes before the midnight awakes. Her hair is as straight as the sun's rays. Her hair is like the golden sun during the eclipse, blinding anyone who dares to look. Eyes as blue and bright as our very sky, and when light is caught in these eyes, all you can see is the most perfect cumulus clouds dancing, ready to move when night comes to reveal the moonlight. Smile thin but bright, like the crescent moon, giving anyone, even someone acting as the grinch, joy in their heart.
And there I am, milk chocolate. Like the sunset connecting both night and day together, to create a beautiful twenty-four hour day. My hair is a winding midnight road with a streetlight at the very end. My hair is as thin as the sun's rays, but as dark as a silhouette. My smile like an explosion, so big that it makes my eyes disappear into face. I am like Goldilocks' porridge, not too this not too that, just right.
When I’m not playing volleyball or doing homework, you can usually find me in the garage painting. I like to paint all kinds of things. I get my creativity from a lot of different people in my family. My mom is a creative director at an ad agency, my dad is an artist and illustrator, and my Grandma on my dad’s side is also an artist. Her name is Senga Nengudi and she is widely considered one of the most important black, female artists of our time. So art is in my genes!
This year in my spanish class our teacher gave us the assignment to choose a Caribbean artist and to recreate one of their paintings. I chose Puerto Rican artist Maritza Zambrana and her piece “Mi Puerto Rico”. I loved the colors and how proud the artist is of her culture, with the flag featured. I’ve never been to Puerto Rico, but I would like to go.
My finished product!
I also created this painting of a wave which is kind of like a famous Japanese painting. Painting makes me feel really calm and peaceful. I usually watch Friends reruns when I paint because it is my favorite show. I have watched every episode of all 10 seasons at least 4 or 5 times.
I’m so excited to be included in Prep Volleyball’s Class of 2022 Watch List! I feel so grateful to play the sport I love and am excited to be on this list with some amazing athletes. Everyday I try and just get better than the day before and I am super lucky to have awesome coaches and teammates!
